Kate Lyman, 63, Dies at Mandan
Services Held Here on Tuesday

Miss Kate Lyman, 63, died Friday [August 20, 1930] at a hospital in Mandan, S.D., after being confined to her bed for a week with pneumonia. She, with her nephew, Richard Lyman, went to Mandan two weeks ago to visit at the home of her brother, Louis. While there she contracted a bad cold which resulted in pneumonia.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Christian church with the Rev. A. L. Ragsdale officiating. There were many beautiful floral offerings.

Kate Lyman, daughter of Frederick and Martha Lyman, was born May 26, 1857, at Jackson, Minn. In her early childhood the family moved to Ohio and lived there until Miss Lyman was 16 years old. They then moved to Petersburg, later moving to Estherville.

Miss Lyman was a charter member of the local Christian church and with the exception of nine years spent away from here caring for her sister, she has shared in the life of this congregation throughout its entire history. She might have made a home of her own but she gave up the privilege in order that she might care for her invalid mother, and care for the younger children.

She is survived by three brothers, George of Estherville, Louis of Mandan and Judson of Estherville and their families and by a great many friends. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, June 26, 1930)
