Judson Lyman of Newton Dies After Operaton

Judson J. Lyman, 69, of Newton, brother of George Lyman of Estherville, died this week at Iowa City where he recently had undergone an operation from which he failed to recover.

Mr. Lyman, who was born in Croton, Ohio, came with his father when six years old to Jackson county, Minn., and four years later came to Estherville. For the past 15 years he has been making his home in Newton.

Mr. Lyman lived in Estherville until he was 35 years old during which time he worked for the Vindicator and Republican and the Democrat newspapers. Lyman, who was a printer, had his first printing experience with Frank Carpenter in the Democrat office. He later went to Chicago, Ill., and Cleveland, Ohio, where he worked in printing offices an din later years worked in a job printing office in Newton.

Mr. Lyman, whose first wife died, was later married to Carrie Stine of Estherville who survives him. He is also survived by three sons, all living in Akron, Ohio. He is a member of the Christina church and as a young man enjoyed singing with quartets.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon in Newton and the body will be brought to Estherville late Thursday for burial. A short service will be held in Estherville at the Mahlum and Sandin funeral chapel and burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, March 8, 1945)
