Obituary – Boyd Higley

The community was saddened Friday morning when the sad news reached here from Ada, Minnesota, that Boyd Higley of Estherville had been hurt by an angry bull and died shortly after.

He was afflicted with asthma and had gone there and taken employment with a brother-in-law, Chas. Slininger, in hopes of being relieved.

Stanley Boyd Higley was born at Viola Center, Audubon county, Iowa, July 21, 1885, and died at Ada, Minnesota, June 4, 1915, aged 29 years. A few years ago he came to Estherville where he made his home. He was married to Mina Hornby December 11, 1912, at Estherville and to this union three children were born, Ruth Ramona, aged 8, Neul [Newell] Francis, aged 21 months, and little Harley Boyd aged 8 weeks.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock conducted by Rev. Case and interment made in Oak Hill cemetery.

Boyd was a kind and loving father and husband and will be sadly missed in the home as he was a home-loving man and always with his family until leaving for Minnesota about 5 weeks ago for his health.

A young wife, daughter, two sons, his parents and three sisters are left to mourn his untimely death. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, June 16, 1915)
