Mrs. Kruse was a woman of great ambition and of high ideals. As a graduate of the University of Iowa and of the Gregg Business College of Chicago she was ably fitted to carry on to a high plane in the educational world. Her health broke down following an illness as she was completing her college work but in the few positions she was able to take up she showed great ability as a teacher and as a leader.
Edna Cummings was born on June 7, 1922 at Reinbeck, Iowa. The family moved to Estherville and she attended the Estherville High school going as far as the junior year. She went with her parents to Waterloo and graduated from the West Waterloo high school in 1910. The two following years she spent in teaching and on February 25, 1910 she was married to Elmer E. Kruse. They settled on a farm near Gruver but after a little over two years and a half of happy married life her husband was taken from her on the 4th day of September, 1916.
In the fall of 1917 she entered the University of Iowa and received her bachelor of arts degree in 1922. While at the University she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and the Gamma Epsilon Pi, national honorary commerce fraternity. Mrs. Kruse was principal of the Armstrong schools for one year, but wishing to specialize in commerce she attended the Gregg College. Upon receiving her diploma she at once received a position in the Bryant Stratton Business College in Chicago but was compelled to resign because of her weakened heart. For the next three years she remained in Estherville with her parents and as she felt considerably improved she accepted the superintendency of the East Emmet consolidated school in 1926. Her heart condition grew steadily worse during the past year and a few months ago she gave up her school duties. Since then she had been confined to her bed until her passing Saturday.
Mrs. Cummings [Kruse] was the only child of her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Cummings.
