Young Man Dies at Hospital
Elmer Kruse Passed Away Monday Morning
Operation Was Too Late

[Unreadable lines]

Although relatives had urged him to have an operation for appendicitis Mr. Kruse did not realize how serious his condition was until stricken two weeks ago with a severe attack. He was taken to the City Hospital as soon as possible and on operating physicians found that gangrene had set in. Everything that skilled hands could do was to no avail and Monday morning Elmer Kruse gave up his struggle for life. He was a fine man blessed with a happy home and good wife and doting parents. His prospects for the future were very bright. We can only bow our heads in meek submission and say, “His Will Be Done.”

Elmer Ethan Kruse was born at Reinbeck June 18, 1887, and died September 4, 1916. He came to Emmet county with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kruse, in 1895, making his home with them on their farm northeast of Estherville.

February 25, 1914, he was joined in holy wedlock to Miss Edna Cummings. They have lived on a farm near Gruver since their marriage.

The deceased leaves besides his sorrowing wife, his parents, five brothers and two sisters. The funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 o’clock at the Presbyterian church. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, September 6, 1916)

Death Takes Elmer Kruse
After Long Illness Young Man Succumbs at the City Hospital
Had Been Ill For Some Time
Was Prosperous Farmer and Resided East of City – Funeral from Presbyterian Church

The community was sadly shocked Monday morning by the announcement of the death of Elmer Ethan Kruse, at the City Hospital. Mr. Kruse had been in a serious condition for some time, but it was not thought he was in such a critical condition until the last few hours.

Elmae Kruse, as he has always been known by everyone, was one of Emmet county’s prosperous young farmers. He was energetic and painstaking and was rapidly surging to the front as one of the most progressive tiller of the soil.

Mr. Kruse was born in Reinbeck, on June 18, 1887, and moved with his parents to Emmet county in the year 1895. He remained with his parents on the farm and on February 25 he was united in marriage to Miss Edna Cummings, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Cummings, neighbors on the farm to the Kruse family.

The deceased is survived by a father and mother, and five brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Kruse has always been active in farm circles, and was always a willing worker in any cause that would promote the industry. While he was never forward in expressing himself on these matters, his word was always taken in the councils of the institutes, fairs and farm improvement associations. For this reasons he will be greatly missed in this county.

The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church today at two o’clock, the Rev. R. C. Mitchell officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in the Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, September 6, 1916)
