Wife of E. H. Koop, Foreman Rock Island Yards
Ill Only a Short Time
Prominent Estherville Lady Had Been Failing in Health Since FebruaryMrs. E. H. Koop, one of Estherville’s prominent women, passed away at her home on east Des Moines street Sunday morning, November 9th. She had been in failing health since February when she was subjected to a severe attack of influenza. Complications set in and since that time her health had been gradually declining. Everything medical aid and attention could give was done for her but it was to no avail and the end came quietly Sunday morning at 7:35 o’clock. Mrs. Koop has for the past ten years been recorder for the Royal Neighbors Lodge in this city. She was also an active member of the Rebekah Lodge and was prominent in the church work of the Baptist church, of which she has been a lifelong member. Her passing away will leave a vacancy in the hearts of many that will be hard to fill. Ever ready to do her share of the work and always willing to help someone in need, her friendship was one which it was a pleasure and profit to cultivate. Louisa E. Koop was born July 25, 1880, at Pomeroy, Iowa. Her education was received in the Pomeroy and Fort Dodge schools. On January 1, 1901, she was married to Ed H. Koop. One son was born but died when he was but a year old. In the fall of 1910 they moved to Estherville and have made their home in this city ever since. Mrs. Koop’s mother, Mrs. Wm. J. Lindey, passed away about four years ago on November 8th. Since that time her father, who is ninety-three years of age, has been making his home with them. Besides her devoted husband and father, Mrs. Koop is survived by three sisters and one brother. The sisters are Mrs. Mary Quinlin, of Wall Lake; Mrs. Will Hailey, of Mason City, and Mrs. U. J. Slaba, of Fort Dodge. The brother is Wm. J. Lindley, of Chicago. All were present at the funeral. Mr. Koop’s mother, Mrs. Hannah Manthe, and sister, Mrs. A. A. Bush, and niece, Mrs. Arthur Bowen, all of Minneapolis, were also present at the funeral. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the house and 2:30 from the Baptist church, Rev. W. F. Huxford officiating. The beautiful floral offerings and the large number of people who gathered to pay their last respects to the deceased indicated the great esteem in which she was held by people in this community. The Democrat extends its deepest sympathy to the bereaved husband and sorrowing relatives in their sad hours. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, November 12, 1924) Note: Maiden name is Linde

Not only her family but the community as well suffer a distinct loss in her passing. Her pastor writes the following beautiful record of her life and death:
Louisa E. Linde was born July 25, 1980 [1880] at Pomeroy, Iowa. She departed this life November 9, 1924 at 7:35 a.m. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Linde. On January 1st, 1901 the deceased was united in marriage with Mr. Ed Koop of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Here a son, Edward Junior, was born to them but died in infancy. She was a member of the local Baptist Church, having united during the Pastorate of Rev. J. F. Catlin. She was a member of both the Royal Neighbors and Rebekah lodges. All of these organizations she served loyally and well. Could she have lived until Jan. 1 she would have received a gold medal for service as Recorder in the Royal Neighbor lodge.
Mrs. Koop leaves to mourn her death three sisters, Mrs. Mary Quinlin of Wall Lake, Mrs. U. J. Slaba of Fort Dodge and Mrs. Wm. Hawley of Mason City, also two brothers, Wm. J. Her last easy were spent in intense suffering when conscious. Anemia was the chief cause of her demise. Her faith in Christ was strong until the last. In her conscious moments, she called repeatedly for the scriptures to be read to her. On Wednesday she asked for the Lord’s Supper which was given to her. She made many plans for her affairs after her going, gave all her friends and relatives farewell, after which, even in her semi-conscious moments, she prayed continually. She was anxious and ready to go. Her’s was a faith beautiful to witness and it carried her thru the ordeal of sickness and death with a smile.
At her own request she was buried in Oak Hill cemetery. The funeral was held at the Baptist Church on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, her Pastor, W. F. Huxford officiating. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, November 12, 1924)
