Death of Wallace Salisbury

One of the saddest deaths we have been called upon to chronicle for some time past is that of Wallace Salisbury who died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Salisbury, in this city, at four o’clock Sunday morning [August 4, 1901]. He had been sick only a few days. A consultation of doctors Saturday afternoon pronounced his case diphtheria. Very few knew of his sickness and were greatly shocked when learning of his death. Deceased was fifteen years of age. A more industrious or religious boy could not be found in Estherville and he had the promise of becoming an exemplary young man. Funeral services were held in the street in front of the family home Sunday afternoon and the body interred in the West Side cemetery. The sympathy of this community is extended to the family in their hour of profound sorrow. (The Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, August 7, 1901)
