Mrs. August Schaper Dies at Age of 88
Mrs. August (Minnie) Schaper, 88, resident of Emmet County since 1917, died Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Family Hospital. Death was attributed to complications resulting from a broken hip which Mrs. Schaper suffered in a fall on May 19. She had been in the hospital since that time.
Born Nov. 26, 1871 at Wilhelmshoven, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Onno Lindenman. In 1890 she came with her parents to this country and settled in Grundy County.
Minnie Lindenman and August Schaper were married in 1894 and following their marriage lived first in Winnebago County. In 1917 they moved to Emmet County. After Mr. Schaper's death, Mrs. Schaper continued to live here, making her home during the past few years with a daughter, Mayme Schaper.
Mrs. Schaper was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. E.E. (Hannah) Johnson, Houston, Tex., Mayme Schaper, Mrs. Nolan (Lena) Boggess, Mrs. Nels (Anne) Christensen, all of Estherville; five sons, Otto, August and Raymond, all of Estherville, Fred of Kenyon, Minn., and Henry of Mesa, Ariz., 42 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Schaper was preceded in death by her husband, one son, William, a daughter, Sophia, and one grandson, Myron Johnson.
Funeral services are to be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, the Rev. James K. Lyon officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
Pall bearers are to be Larry Boggess, Roger Johnson, Harold Lenox, Arnold Brunner, Duane Schaper and Mario Schaper.
Friends may call at Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home until time of the family service to be held tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel before the body is taken to the church for services there.
