August Schapper, 63 Years Old, Dies
Farmer Came to This Country From Germany When a Young Man
Funeral services for August Schapper, 63 years old, who died here last Sunday, were conducted by the Rev. P.A. Davies from the Presbyterian Church Wednesday afternoon.
Mr. Schapper was born in Hanover Germany, on Jan. 16, 1864. In 1893 when he was 29 years old, he left Germany and came to America. He first settled in Grundy County, near Buffalo Center. There on March 5, 1895 he was married to Miss Minnie Linderman. Mr. and Mrs. Schapper spent the first seven years of their married life in Grundy County from there the moved to Winnebago County where they lived 16 years. The last 10 years have been spent on a farm seve miles northwest of the city.
He is survived by his wife and 11 children. They are as follows: Mrs. C.M. Bruner of Amery, Wis., Mrs. Eppie Johnson of Buffalo Center, Fred Schapper of Buffalo Center and Otto Schapper of Estherville. The following live at home: August, Henry, Mayme, William, Anna, Lena and Raymond. There are ten grandchildren. Mr. Schapper has a brother, Fred Schapper, living at Buffalo Center and also has a brother and sister in Germany.
In early life he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. When he came to Estherville he joined the Presbyterian church. His funeral service conducted by Rev. Davies was held from the Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon.
