ESTHERVILLE - Services for Maurice W. Boggess, 79, of Estherville, will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Tom Nash officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with graveside rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91 both of Estherville. He died Tuesday, April 7, 1998 at University of Iowa Hospital at Iowa City.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Henry-Olson Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville with Parish Vigil service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was born April 8, 1918 at Estherville, son of Lester and Mary (Nolan) Boggess. He attended Estherville schools graduating from high school in 1937. He attended Estherville Junior College, then served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a pilot in the South Pacific attaining the rank of Major. On Aug. 19, 1942 he married Doris May Hollenbeck at Shelfridge Field AFB near Mt. Clemons, Mich. After the war he returned to Estherville and started Estherville Sand and Gravel which he later sold and moved his operation to Wallingford and Emmetsburg and started Boggess Concrete Materials and Const. Co. In 1996 they returned to Estherville.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, VFW, Elks Lodge and helped start a bereavement support group in Estherville.
Survivors include daughters: Mrs. Don (Leslie) Umscheid, Kenosha, Wis., Mrs. Harlan (Christy) Hoganson, Pampa, Texas; Mrs. Gerry (Katy) Johnson, Spencer; Mrs. Tracy (Holly) Lair, North Liberty; Mrs. Mack (Mary) Moorman and Mrs. Tom (Margaret) Evans of Estherville; sons: Jim of Omaha, Neb. and Tom of Estherville; 19 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Bernard (Virginia) Johnson, and brother Francis of Estherville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one son; parents and one brother.
