Miss Edna Barker, Pioneer Resident, Passed Away Wed.
Miss Edna Barker, a life long resident, passed away Wednesday morning at eleven o’clock after an illness of some duration. Last week she was taken suddenly with a stroke from which she never recovered.Miss Barker was 66 years of age at the time of her death. She was for many years deputy county recorder during the period her father was in that office and later for many years.
She was a graduate of the first class of the Estherville high school and was beloved by all.
The funeral services will be held on Friday at 2:30 from the Baptist church of which she was a member. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, November 10, 1938)

Early GraduateA wide circle of friends were grieved to learn of the death at 11 a.m. last Wednesday of Miss Edna Mae Barker, life long resident of Emmet county. Miss Barker had been in failing health for a number of years but her condition took a sudden turn for the worse about a month ago.
Born Sept. 22, 1872, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Barker, Miss Barker was at the time of her passing 66 years old. She had always taken an active part in community affairs. She was a graduate of the first class from the Estherville high school and for many years held positions of trust as deputy county recorder and deputy county auditor.
As a member of the Baptist church, since June 27, 1896, Miss Barker carried her share of the church work as an instructor in the Bible school, supervisor of the young people and clerk of the church. She was a member of the Estherville Woman’s Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and of the D.D.D. club a group organized during high school days by several young women as the Shakespearian club.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at two-thirty from the Baptist church with Rev. J. A. Riggs officiating. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery. Pall bearers were: Vance Noe, Charles Nourse, F. A. Johnson, James Reed, Wm. Dickerson, and Lawrence Dickinson. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, November 15, 1938)
