Obituary of Mrs. A. A. Pingrey
Martha L. Stone was born May 19, 1841, at Milo, Yates County, N.Y. Here she spent her childhood days and early youth. In October of the year 1856 she came to Humboldt, Iowa, from which place she was married to A. A. Pingrey May 5, 1864, and came directly to Estherville where she has since continued to make her home until her decease January 4, 1927.To this union were born six children, William Eber, died in infancy, Maria Z., David S., Mary A., Lucy O., and Jennie N. together with five grandchildren and three great grandchildren, who remain to mourn their irreparable loss in the going of the beloved mother.
Mrs. Pingrey united with the Baptist church in this city in 1870 and has been a most devoted member through the years. Her Lord and His church were first in her thought and devotion.
Mr. Pingrey preceded his wife to the heavenly city having passed away June 27, 1919.
Mrs. Pingrey was an unusual woman, intellectually strong, ever thoughtful for those about her. A devoted mother. A true friend and an ideal Christian. In her many relations of life she sought to discharge her every responsibility as she believed her Lord would have her. Her every thought was brightened with the highest ideals, full of the deepest sympathy and tenderest consideration for others. No word was permitted to pass her lips save such as would encourage, uplift and inspire.
She leaves a notable heritage to her children in a life well spent in the Master’s service and in her ministry to those she loved and for whom she felt a tender concern.
The earth is poorer for her going but heaven is richer for her passing. Her children can truly rise up and call her blessed. J. A. Hurley (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, January 12, 1927)
