The many friends of N. B. Clark were shocked to learn of his death last Thursday. It came so sudden that none of his neighbors were prepared for the word. Mr. Clark had lived in this neighborhood a number years and was universally respected. Quite a number from here attended the funeral. The widow and sons have the sympathy of all in their bereavement. He was taken sick Sunday morning and died of obstruction of the bowels. He had been troubled for several years with hernia and this with the other ailment hastened his death. Deceased was born at Winsted, Conn., and was sixty years of age at the time of his death. He had been a resident of Emmet county for fifteen years, coming here in 1889 and engaging in the meat business. He remained in that business for several years and then moved onto his farm where he spent his remaining years. He was a man of excellent business ability and made friends wherever he went. Besides a loving wife he leaves two sons and several grandchildren to mourn his sudden demise. The sons are Charles Clark of Lincoln township, this county, and Fred Clark of Ackley, Minn. Funeral services were held at the family home at two o’clock Friday afternoon and interment made in the East Side Cemetery. (The Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, September 21, 1904)
