E. L. Brown is Dead
Elijah L. Brown died Saturday morning, Dec. 15th, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. Crim, southwest of this city, after a lingering illness of several weeks with what a consultation of doctors termed cancer of the stomach. Deceased had been a resident of this county for sixteen years prior to his moving to Arkansas two years ago and from there to Minot, N.D. his present home. Shortly after taken sick he came back to Estherville where he realized he would receive the best medical treatment, but it was to no avail. He has numerous friends who will regret to learn of his sudden demise. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the M.E. church and the remains tenderly transferred to the West Side Cemetery where they were deposited. E. L. Brown, a pioneer resident of this city, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Al Crim, early Friday morning, of cancer. Funeral was held from the Methodist church and the body laid to rest in the Oak Hill cemetery Monday. Mr. Brown had been residing at Minot, North Dakota the past year and came here for a visit six weeks ago. He had not been here very long before was taken ill resulting in his death. A wife, two sons and a daughter are left to mourn his demise. (Emmet County Republican, Estherville, IA, December 20, 1900)
