Longtime Resident of City Dies

Anton Stoery, 72, longtime resident of Estherville, died at 5 a.m. yesterday (Nov. 27, 1958)at his home here. Mr. Stoery had been ill with Parkinson's disease for the past several years and death was due to that and a kidney complication.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow with short family services at 1:30 p.m. at Sternborg Funeral Home followed by services at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church the Rev. F. W. McKnight officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Stoery was born Sept. 6, 1886 at Elgin, the son of Casper and Mary Stoery. At the age of seven he and his parents moved to Dows where he finished his elementary and high school education. He also attended Iowa State College at Ames.

He was married [secondly] to Ember Ecklund of Aitkin, Minn., in 1920.

A resident of Estherville since 1909, Mr. Stoery was a retired Rock Island Agent asistant. He had worked for the Rock Island for 45 years before retiring in 1952.

He had served on the local school board, served as chairman of the former recreational center and was chairman of the county welfare society at one time. Before his illness he was an active member of Union Baptist Church, having served as deacon, trustee and head usher there.

Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. A. J. (Elizabeth Renae) Heise of Bologna, Italy; two sons, Samuel and Thomas, both of Chicago, and four grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Sternborg Funeral Home until time of services tomorrow. A memorial fund for Calvary Baptist Church is being established.
