S. B. Reed, Pioneer, Dead
Samuel B. Reed, one of Emmet county's oldest citizens and one of its finest characters passed away at his home in Dolliver Monday afternoon. Mr. Reed has been in failing health for a long time but has not been seriously ill until a few weeks ago.
Mr. Reed was born in Carroll county, Ill., December 22, 1849 and on Sept. 22, 1875 he was united in marriage to Sylvia A. Bailey. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year.
Mr. Reed came to Emmet county in 1890 and commenced farming near Dolliver. He brought his family to this county the following year. They resided on the farm for many years and then moved to Dolliver. Mr. Reed was during his earlier life active in politics. He was a friend of all who knew him and was beloved by all. Always looking for the opportunity to assist his friends and neighbors. He was a man it was a pleasure to know and been friendly with. He is survived by his widow and nine children. W.B. Reed, Fairmont, Minn.; Mrs. Ruth Caylor, Dolliver, who has lived with her parents for some time; Mrs. Ben Trimble, Cheyenne, Wyo.; Mrs. Mima Wertz, Estherville; J.O. Reed, Minneapolis; Mrs. Alice Shuttleworth, Thompson; Mrs. F. R. Dowden, Spirit Lake; Mrs. A. R. Eckhart, Dolliver, and B.M. Reed, Hollandale, Minn. He is also survived by 41 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren.
The funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon from the home at 2:30 and 10:30 at the Methodist church, the Rev. C. L. Day officiating. Interment was made in the Dolliver cemetery.
