Mrs. J. M. Briggs, a pioneer of this city for the past fifty years, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Foster Kemp on Lincoln street, last Thursday evening.

Mrs. Briggs had been a sufferer with cancer for years, but with all her illness, she kept up well and was always pleasant and agreeable to her friends. Medical attention had been administered and she was for a time in the Coleman hospital but recovery was uncertain.

Mrs. Briggs was born in Missouri May 25, 1858. She was united in marriage to J.M. Briggs on Oct. 8, 1876. They resided on a farm in southern Iowa for a time moving to Nebraska and from there to Estherville.

For many years Mrs. Briggs has resided at the corner of Lincoln and third streets and the Briggs' home has become a fixture from the fact that the family have resided there so long.

The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the Sternborg Funeral home with Rev. W. A. Ortmeyer officiating. Burial was made in the Oak Hill cemetery.
