WILLIAM BARTLETT, SR., PASSES AWAY

Word was received recently in this city by Mrs. Vance Noe announcing the death of Mr. Wm. Bartlett, on the 11th of this month at his home in Eltadena, California, of complications incident to old age. He was past eighty years of age and is survived by his wife, two sons, William, Jr., and Charles and two daughters, Mrs. Chas. Woods, and Miss Carrie, all of California. Deceased was one of the pioneer residents of this city. He was at one time in the lumber business in Estherville and had extensive real land interests in the city and Emmet County. He platted two additions to the north part of Estherville, which are known as Bartlett's first and second additions. These additions extend to the city limits. He built the Bartlett block a three story building that was destroyed by fire at the time the post office block burned. He built the residence on North Sixth Street now owned by John Sandven. About fifteen years ago he moved with his family to California where he resided until death. His last illness extended over a period of about eight weeks. He was one of the pillars of the Baptist church in Estherville and was largely instrumental in its growth and influence in the community.
