Rev. Sven Strand of Wallingford Passes Away
The Rev. Sven Strand of Walllngford died Sunday morning at a hospital at Fairmont, Minn., where he has been a patient for the two weeks.
The Reverend Strand was born March 10, 1852, in Hallingdahl Norway, and came to the United States when he was 20 years old. Before coming to the United States he taught school for two years. He was ordained into the Lutheran ministry at Minneapolis in 1879 and was pastor at Blooming Prairie, Minn., for 10 years.
Tho Reverend Strand came to Estherville in 1899 and served as pastor after which he went to Wallingford to be pastor of the church. Following this he taught at the Luther Normal school at Madison, Minn., for seven years and then retired on a farm east of Wallingford.
He was married at Blooming Prairie, Minn., to Gunild Clausen who died in 1941.
The Reverend Strand is survived by two sons, Olaf of Wallingford and Lauritz of Ledyard, a daughter, Mrs. J.M. Wolden of Fairmont, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday at. 2 p. m. at the Lutheran church in Wallingford and burial was in the cemetery east of Wallingford.
