GRAETTINGER - Funeral services for Donald F. Peton, 80, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2005, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger, Pastor Keith Lingwall and Intern Pastor Tom Smith will officiate. Interment with military graveside rites by the Wallingford American Legion Post will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Graettinger. Donald died Thursday, April 14, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Graettinger.

Donald Francis Peton the son of Paul E. and Sophie B. (Bondhus) Peton was born July 4, 1924, in Graettinger, Iowa and departed this life on Thursday, at the Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa, at the age of 80 years old.

He received his education in the rural Graettinger schools. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in the Southern Philippine's.

On June 1, 1948, he was united in marriage to Doris Westergard at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Graettinger, Iowa. Following their marriage, the couple lived in the Graettinger and Twelve Mile Lake area where they farmed. In 1990, Doris and Donald moved to Estherville. Doris died March 22, 2005.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger. For hobbies, Don enjoyed woodworking, gardening and fishing.

Left to cherish Donald's memory are his children, Kathleen Drake and her husband, Ranell of Odebolt, Iowa; Eileen Thornton and her husband, Roderick of O'Fallon, Illinois; David Peton and his wife, Debbie of Estherville; four grandchildren, Jill Shadwick and her husband, Richard of Springfield, Missouri; Dana Drake and his wife, Jill of Comfrey, Minnesota; Carrie Puetz and her husband, Brad of Sioux City, Iowa; Nicole Peton of Estherville; one great-granddaughter, Mallory Drake; brothers and sister, Clifford Peton and his wife, Anne of Estherville; Paul Peton, Jr. and his wife, Lavon of Graettinger; Richard Peton and his wife, Joyce of Estherville and Miriam Peton of Graettinger.

He has been preceded in death by his parents; wife; an infant son, James; nephews, Stanley Westergard and Daniel Westergard: sisters, Elaine Dalen, Marilyn Peton; brother, Euclair Peton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Beverly Peton, Virginia Peton, Lowell Kiehl and Kenneth Henningsen; mother and father-in-law, John and Venita Westergard.
