Harriet Lauretta Dorothea Olson, the daughter of Harry Herbert Olson and Florence Ida Dorothea (Shoberg) Olson, was born June 2, 1919, near Forest Lake, Minnesota. She died Wednesday, August 24, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville, Iowa, at the age of 86 years, two months and 22 days.

She was baptized June 15, 1919, at Faith Lutheran Church in Forest Lake. On May 28, 1933, she was confirmed at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City, Minnesota. Harriet attended grade school in Minneapolis, Forest Lake and Shafer, Minnesota. She attended and graduated from Taylors Falls High School in Taylors Falls, Minnesota. Harriet later attended St Cloud State College where she earned her teacher's certificate.

Harriet was united in marriage to Orlando E. "Bud" Olson on January 1, 1949, at Faith Lutheran Church in Forest Lake. During her teaching career Harriet taught school at Chisago Lake School at Lindstrom, Minnesota, Isle Public School in Isle, Minnesota, Forest Lake Public School in Forest Lake and later in the Estherville Public School System where Harriet and Bud raised their family and made their home. Earlier in her life she also had been employed by the United States Signal Corps in Washington, D.C. Harriet enjoyed being a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, an Estherville 4-H Gems Leader for fifteen years, and a Cub Scout Leader. Bud died April 23, 2000.

Harriet was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she had served as a Sunday School teacher. In her many church activities she also was a Lutheran Women's Missionary League member, Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Guild, member of Aquiscilla and a member of Mary-Esther Circle. Harriet also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Sons of Norway and a member of the Retired Teacher's Association.

Left to cherish Harriet's memory are two children, David E. Olson and his wife, Diana of Outing, Minnesota; Christe Ann Lamansky and her husband, Ron of Fairfield, Iowa; grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Marcus Olson, Cody McCoy, Cady, Cara and Cala Lamansky; sister, Phyllis Kleene and her husband, Kermit of Nevis, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Luella Segar of Webster City, Iowa; Maye Wahlman and her husband, Lyle of Stratford, Iowa; Joyce Rolland and her husband, Garman of Phoenix, Arizona; Madlyn Olson and her husband, Richard of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Harriet in death were her husband; one daughter, Cynthia Kay Ziebell; her parents; and one brother, Lowell Olson.
