Homesteaded in Emmet Township After Coming Here From WatervilleHalvor O. Olson, pioneer of Emmet county for sixty-six years, passed away last evening [August 19, 1924]. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 in the Estherville Lutheran church.
Mr. Olson, [born in Norway in 1838] who would have been 85 years old next October, has been ailing for the past two weeks, and death finally claimed him as a result of arterial sclerosis.
He had been a very active man all his life up until the last few years, when his age and health did not permit. Since 1858, he has operated his farm in Emmet township which he had taken as a homestead from the government.
Since Mrs. Olson's death seventeen years ago, their daughter Sophia, who had been teaching previously, gave up her work to keep the home for her father and brother, Otto.
There are three other children in the family: Mrs. Carl Olson and Mrs. Theo Myhre, of this city, and Alfred Olson who lives in Minneapolis.
