RINGSTED - Funeral services for Carl William Nielsen, 79, Ringsted were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ringsted with the Rev. Fred Boyce officiating. Interment was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Ringsted. He died Friday, Feb. 1, 1985 at Pocahontas Manor. Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Ringsted was in charge of arrangements.
He was born April 7, 1905 to the Rev. Edward and Anne (Jensen) Nielsen at Kenmare, N.D. He graduated from Sleepy Eye, Minn., High School in 1922. On Jan. 1, 1930 he was united in marriage to Martha Emilie Bonnichsen at the North Lutheran Church in Viborg, S.D. by his father. The couple farmed at Elmore, Minn. for three years before moving to a farm two miles south of Ringsted in Denmark Township. In 1946 they purchased a farm near Armstrong and continued farming until 1973. In 1975 they moved to Ringsted. Carl resided at Pocahontas Manor from April 13, 1984 until the time of his death.
Survivors include his wife, Martha, three daughters, Eileen (Mrs. Ordean) Grant, Onalaska, Wis., Dorothy (Mrs. Gerry) Allen, Conesville, Margaret (Mrs. Duane) Rude, Pocahontas: two sons, Donald Nielsen, Portland, Ore., Roger Nielsen, Boston, Mass.; 15 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters, Julia (Mrs. Neil) Bonnicksen, Richfield, MInn., and Mrs. Alice Hansen, Bainbridge Island, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Richard Gordon; two sisters, Agnes Gebuhr, Rose Keiselhorst; and one brother, the Rev. Erhardt Nielsen.
