MRS. BEN NELSON DIES MONDAY

Had Been Ill for Year with Diabetes

Mrs, Ben M. Nelson died at a local hospital Monday evening [April 4, 1932] after an illness of over a year of diabetes. Her last critical illness was of only short duration. She became seriously sick last week. Mrs. Nelson was 45 years old and had spent her entire life in Emmet county residing in Estherville for 12 years. She was a devoted home woman giving her entire time and energy to her family and to those interests which belonged to her home and church.

Pauline Sophia Jacobson was born March 1, 1887 on the farm home of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Lars Jacobson southwest of Estherville. Baptized as an infant she was instructed in the Lutheran faith and confirmed Nov. 2, 1902. She grew to womanhood of the farm where she was born. On Jan. 5, 1910 she was united in marriage to Bennie M. Nelson. The first year they lived in Wallingford where Mr. Nelson was a grain buyer. The next year they moved on a farm 3 miles south of Estherville. From there they went and operated Mr. Nelson's mother's farm. In 1915 they moved to their own farm near Raleigh which they had purchased the year before. In 1920 they moved into their present home, 608 East Walnut Street, Estherville. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Nelson, the daughters Olive and Lola and a son who died shortly after birth.

Upon settling in Estherville the family transferred their membership to the Estherville Lutheran church where they have been active members since. Mrs. Nelson has been an interested member and energetic worker in the Ladies Aid and the Mission Societies of the church. About a year ago she was taken seriously ill with diabetes and spent several weeks in the hospital. While she never fully recovered she was able to be about her work in the home. Friday evening of last week she became quite ill and Saturday night she went into a coma from which she never fully came out of in spite of all that was done for her by doctor and nurses. She passed away on Monday evening about 9 o'clock. Besides her sorrowing husband and daughters she leaves to mourn her early demise her aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lars Jacobson (the oldest couple among the members of the Estherville Lutheran church), the sisters, Mrs. Andrew Frisvold of Lemmon, S. D., Mrs. James Kasa of Revere, Minn., Mrs. Arthur Fossum of Estherville, Mrs. H. Hansen of Fairbanks, Alaska, Alpha and Sessel of Estherville and one brother, Jake Jacobson of Estherville.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at one thirty from the home and at two o'clock from the Estherville Lutheran church. Interment will be in the Wallingford cemetery.
