GRUVER--Services for Clifford "Buck" Higgins, 84, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Gruver with the Rev. Neal Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in High Lake Cemetery, rural Wallingford. Family and friends may call today after 3:00 p.m. at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville. Mr. Higgins died Saturday, July 15, 1989 at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Clifford "Buck" Allen Higgins was born December 27, 1904 to James Wm. and Anna Rose (McFerrin) Higgins in Blairstown, Missouri. He attended country schools in the Blairstown area. On April 30, 1930 he married Mary Pearl Ellis at Warnsburg [Warrensburg], Mo. The couple moved to the Gruver area in 1938 where Mr. Higgins farmed and was employed as ranch manager for Mac Groves. He was later employed by the Gruver School district as a custodian from 1952 until he retired in 1971.. He had a special interest in baseball, playing with Satchel Paige in 1927 and a semi-pro team in Armstrong. Mr. Higgins was member of the Presbyterian church in Gruver.

Survivors include his wife Pearl of Gruver; three daughters: Mrs. Charles (Peggy) Haman of Curlew, Mrs. James (Karel) Bishop of Estherville, and Betty Trimble of Cedar Rapids; one son, William "Butch" Higgins of Denver, Colo.; a brother, E. J. Higgins of Holden, Mo.; nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
