He was one of two children born to his parents, the other dying in infancy. His mother married John M. Inman, Oct. 20, 1851. His mother died Dec. 13, 1891. Edward [sic] O. Hibbard enlisted in the Union Army in Company A; 28th Regiment Iowa Infantry, Aug. 9th, 1862, and was discharged at Savannah, Ga., July 31, 1865, lacking but nine days of three years of service. He was married to Dollie M. [sic] Smith, July 22, 1869. They resided in Benton Co. six years, in Worth Co. about fifteen years and moved to Emmet Co. in 1890. The first stroke of paralysis came upon him in February 1891. For some months he was helpless and speechless but grew some better. A second stroke in June 1892, rendered him again helpless and speechless and so continued to the close of his life. He was taken to Worth county for treatment but returned in March 1896 to this city where he has resided until death relieved him from his bodily infirmities and sufferings. The deceased leaves a widow, the wife of his young manhood and the patient nurse in these years of infirmity, an aged and imfirm [sic] step-father 84 years old, two step-brothers, Chas. E. Inman, Cedar Rapids, Ia., of the 8th Iowa Infantry and Henry L. Inman, Olympia, Washington, a soldier in an Illinois regiment and two half-brothers George W. Inman, of this county and John T. Inman of Storm Lake, Iowa.

The funeral services were held in the M. E. church, short addresses by Rev. G. W. Southwell and Rev. M. D. Bevan. A large procession followed the remains to Oak Hill cemetery. The pall bearers were from the G. A. R. Post and an escort of old comrades carried the old flag at the head of the procession. The grave had been beautifully decorated with red, white and blue, evergreens and flowers by the ladies of the Womans' Relief Corps. At the grave the G. A. R. ritual service was conducted by the Commander L. L. Bixby and Chaplain A. A. Wilcox of M. A. Vandenburg Post.
