ESTHERVILLE -- Services for Willard Heyer, 92, will be Friday Aug. 22 at 1:30 p.m. at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville with the Rev. Mark Gabbard officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. He died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997 at Hilltop Care Center at Spirit Lake.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. He was born July 5, 1905 at Cushing, the son of Ernest and Katherine (Clausen) Heyer. He moved to Estherville with his family when he was a young boy and was a graduate of Estherville High School in 1924. He married Amanda Schluter in 1924 in Jackson, Minn. He worked for Wilder's Variety Store in Estherville and managed the Wilder's Store in Jackson before purchasing an interest in a second Wilder's store in Estherville in 1928. He later worked in Sibley and Graettinger where he operated variety stores.
During WW II he worked for the Army Air Corps in Texas as a teletype operator. After the war he returned to Estherville where he worked for Sears Store. His first wife died Dec. 19, 1946. On April 30, 1950 he married Helen Platt Miller at Blue Earth, Minn. He retired from Sears in July 1967. His wife Helen died Oct. 12, 1976. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Senior Citizens.
Survivors include sons Richard (Tex) of Spirit Lake and Donald of Norwalk; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Gladys Booth of Estherville and Irene Reed of Phoenix, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his two wives, parents, two brothers and one sister.
