Mary Pearl Higgins, 1907-1990

GRUVER-- Services for Pearl Higgins, 82, will be today at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Gruver with Rev. Neal Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow in High Lake Cemetery in Wallingford. Mrs. Higgins died Friday, June 29, 1990 at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Mary Pearl Higgins was born August 4, 1907 at Magnolia, Iowa to Charles W. and Rose May Haines Ellis. She attended Holden, Mo., schools, Normal School in Warrensburg, Mo., and later, Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. On April 30, 1930 she married Clifford "Buck" Higgins at Warrensburg, Mo. Pearl taught country school in Missouri before she and her husband moved to the Gruver area in 1938. She continued teaching in Estherville area schools for more than twenty-four years. Mrs. Higgins entered the Good Samaritan Center in September of 1989. She was a member of the Gruver Presbyterian Church and the Rebeccas.

Survivors include a son, William H. "Butch" Higgins of Denver, Colo.; three daughters: Mrs. Charles (Peggy) Haman of Curlew, Mrs. James (Karel) Bishop of Estherville, and Mrs. Al (Betty) Sterling of Cedar Rapids; two brothers: Richard Ellis of Harrisville, Mo. and Russell Ellis of Kingsville, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Martha Coskey of Kansas City, Mo.; nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on July 15, 1989, her parents and three brothers.
