Christian Olson Fossum, 1839-1920

C. O. [Christian Olson] Fossum, another pioneer resident of Emmet County and of High Lake Township, passed away at his home on January 2nd [1920]. Mr. Fossum was born in Urskog, Norway, in the year 1839 [August 18, 1839], and came to America and first settled in the state of Kansas. He came to Emmet county in 1870 and took up his residence in High Lake Township. He has resided there since that time with the exception of the time of late years when he has lived with his daughter, Mrs. H. H. Peterson.

Death came after a severe stroke of paralysis.

Mr. Fossum was a beloved citizen of that section of the country where he has resided for so many years. The funeral services were held at Wallingford, the Rev. Hanson and Rev. Strand officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Wallingford cemetery which lies adjacent to the farm on which Mr. Fossum lived for so many years. He leaves to mourn his death a daughter who is a Red Cross nurse in Persia, and a son L. O. Fossum, missionary to Persia, Oscar Fossum of Minneapolis, Alfred Fossum of Yale, Mass., Mrs. Oliver Larson, Mrs. H. H. Fossum and Arthur Fossum of this city.
