Geneva Haugen Fransdal, 1913-2007

Geneva Marie Haugen was born March 18, 1913 on a farm in Newton Township, Winnebago County, Iowa to Joseph T. and Betsey Louise (Erickson) Haugen. She passed away on Friday, December 21, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 94.

In March of 1914 they moved to Rake, Iowa. Geneva attended the Rake schools and graduated from Rake High School in 1931. She attended Waldorf Jr. College in Forest City, Iowa and graduated in 1933. She was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa. She then taught in rural schools in Lincoln Township, Winnebago, Iowa.

On December 23, 1935 she was united in marriage to Waldemar C. Fransdal in Estherville. They made their home in Estherville. Waldemar died in 1994.

She is survived by her two sons, Merrill Fransdal of Estherville; Wayne Fransdal and his wife, Barbara of Excelsior, Minnesota; two daughters, Susan Brubaker and her husband, Alan of Oro Valley, Arizona; Elaine Jensen and her husband, Edward of Wallowa, Oregon; 19 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and one brother, James Haugen.

She has been preceded in death by her husband, parents, infant daughter, Esther Karen, son John Fransdal, two daughters, Joanne Gibson and Betty Heidecker and her sisters, Myrtle Schneider, Agnes Nieth, Lillian Morris and one brother, Alvin Haugen.
