What such a mystery is that I can't find an actual death certificate for
Emily Phelps, just that obituary. Do you have a certificate of Emily
Umbreit's death in 1924 or an obituary? I also don't find a record of
an official divorce either between Fred and Emily Phelps.

I do know someone in the Plano Illinois City Hall (family friend) that
may be able to look up some data as well, both for Plano and Kendall
County. I'll have to see about Galena; I assume you mean Illinois also.

Plano was a new town back then, established around 1833, so Fred and
Emily would have been among the first settlers in that area. Prior to
that it was Indian country. A quick web search seems to link a saloon
with the name Fred Phelps.
