In Response To: Paul Straub (Kent E. Kooi)

Kent, Assuming everything indicated was performed legally, a transportation permit would have been required to deliver the cremains to another locale. These permits were usually requested by the funeral director or anyone handling the arrangements in Los Angeles, regardless of the means of conveyance. At the receiving end, a burial permit would also have to have been issued. I'm sure the Dubuque newpaper would have contained articles referring to this. But also keep in mind that on the 1900 Military & Naval Forces census, his stateside address was indicated as Mt. Pleasant, (Henry county) Iowa. Dick
