FARLEY, Iowa -- Daniel J. Koopmann, 70, of 301 Koopmann Court, Farley, died peacefully at home at 8:02 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, surrounded by his family.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Assisting will be Deacon Gerald Koopmann and Deacon James Kean. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a St. Joseph's Parish rosary at 4:30 p.m., and a wake service at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Koopmann owned and operated Koopmann Construction for more than 40 years.
He was born on Feb. 14, 1933, in Dyersville, son of Alphonse H. and Anastasia H. (Klocker) Koopmann. He married Nancy Skahill on April 30, 1960, at Holy Family catholic Church, New Melleray, rural Peosta.
He received his education in the rural Epworth schools and the former Peosta High School.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Farley, and its Altar and Rosary Society. He also was a lector and Eucharistic Minister for the parish. He served on the St. Joseph's Finance Committee and Building and Grounds Board for many years. He also served on the School Board of Farley Bankston School, the Farley City Council for 21 years, the Planning and Zoning Board and the Farley Park Board for several years. He also was a member of the East Central Intergovernmental Association Board for 12 years.
The greatest joys in Dan's life were his family, friends and his work.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Koopmann, of Farley; seven children: Lisa Lewey, of Peosta; Jill (Bill) Bell, Douglas (Karen) Koopmann and Sarah (Ron) Hollenback, all of Farley; Brian (Deb) Koopmann, of Altoona; Dana (Ted) George, of Dubuque; and Barry Koopmann (and friend, Lindsay Carey), of Minneapolis and 14 grandchildren: Lauren and Collin Lewey; Shane, Vanessa, Erica and Miranda Bell; Damon, Peyton and Avery Koopmann; Leah, Maya and Olivia George and Andrew and Emma Hollenback; two sisters, Kathy (James) Kean, of Epworth, and Lois (Jerome) Kramer, of Dyersville; and six brothers, Patrick (Deanna) Koopmann, of Dubuque, Gerald (Joann) Koopmann, Ambrose (Marlene) Koopmann and Thomas (Helen) Koopmann, all of Epworth, Fred Koopmann, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Steve Koopmann, of Bennett.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Brock Charles Lewey, on Feb. 9, 1991; and a sister, Sister Shawn Marie Koopmann.
A Daniel J. Koopmann Memorial Fund has been established.
