Larry Joseph McMahon, 60, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Farley, Iowa, and Dubuque, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at home, surrounded by his family, after a year-long battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Raphael's Cathedral, Dubuque. Private burial will be Sunday in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

Mr. McMahon moved to Dallas in 1982, to develop a commercial print brokerage business with his brother, Pat. He continued in that line of business until his death. Previously, he was employed by Woodward Communications, including its Telecom, KDTH and KFMD subsidiaries.

He was born on July 14, 1942, in Bankston, Iowa, son of Eugene and Helen (Hurley) McMahon. He married Mary Messink in 1962; they later divorced, but remained friends throughout his life.

He graduated with the first graduating class of Wahlert High School in 1960, and attended Loras College. Larry was an accomplished athlete, enjoying water and snow skiing, basketball, tennis and bowling; and he truly excelled in his favorite pastime, playing golf. For many years, he was a private pilot and flew for the Civil Air Patrol. He was a very proud parent and showed tremendous love for his children and grandchildren. His many friendships were very important to him. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. He was a former member of St. Joseph the Worker and St. Columbkille parishes in Dubuque.

Surviving are a son, Jeffrey (girlfriend, Albie) of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Michele (Jeff) Busse, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jacqueline (Bruce) King, of Lenexa, Kan.; six grandchildren, Anna, Monica and Grace Busse, J. Benjamin and Sarah King, and Nathalie McMahon; a brother, J. Patrick (Roberta) McMahon, of Tonto Verde, Ariz.; two sisters, M. Jane (Robert) Ferring, of Dubuque, and Rio Verde, Ariz., and Peggy McMahon, of Dubuque; an aunt, Rita Donohue, of Fond du Lac, Wis.; his beloved companion, JoAnn Terrill, of Dallas; six nieces and nephews; and many loving cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Larry J. McMahon Memorial Fund has been established.
