Joseph J. Richard, 86, of Independence, Iowa, formerly of 235 Dillon St., Dubuque, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Peoples Memorial Hospital Nursing Care Center, Independence.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a wake service at 6:30 p.m.

Mr. Richard worked in sales at Nash Finch Co. in Marshalltown, Iowa, for 10 years, then at John Deere Dubuque Works as a supervisor for 351/2 years, retiring in 1982.

He was born on Aug. 9, 1916, in Melbourne, Iowa, son of Joseph H. and Caroline (Donegan) Richard. He married Rosemary Colligan in 1938 in Manson, Iowa; she died on Jan. 9, 2002.

He was a member of St. Columbkille's Catholic Church, Past President of Tri-State Organ Club, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Holy Name Society, Mercy Hospital Volunteer with the Mended Hearts, Member of Humanities at Mount Carmel and involved in the Roberta Kuhn Center.

Surviving are two sons, Gerald (Patricia) Richard, of Dubuque, and Robert (Kathy) Richard, of Independence; a daughter, Mary (David) Kirkpatrick, of Dubuque; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Dorothy) Richard, of Jewell, Iowa, and John (Myrna) Richard, of St. Louis; and four sisters, Marian Richard and Barbara Schon, both of Des Moines, Madalyn Stone, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mary Kay (John) Swift, of Arlington Heights, Ill.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Ann; a brother, Maurice Richard; and a sister, Delores Richard.

Memorials may be given to St. Columbkille's Catholic Church and Mount Carmel Roberta Kuhn Center.
