FARLEY, Iowa - Robert J. Neyen, 62, of 601 First St. N.E., Farley, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a St. Joseph's Parish rosary at 3 p.m., a wake service at 5:30 p.m., and the Farley Fire Department will meet at 7 p.m.
He was born on May 6, 1941, in Graf, son of Albert P. and Philomenia (Graf) Neyen.
He received his education in the Bankston and Graf area schools, and graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Farley. Following graduation Bob coached the St. Joe's High School basketball team, and later the Farley baseball team and Farley Little League.
On Oct. 30, 1965, he married Jean Ann Simon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley.
Robert was employed with Simon Feed Store from 1960 to 1989. He then started his own business, Holy Cross and Worthington Feed and Supply, operating the two stores with his three sons. Bob also was employed as a livestock production specialist with Farmland/Land O'Lakes until his death. He also operated a catering business known as Far-Fry, for the past 30 years.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Farley, and its altar and rosary society; and was a former volunteer for the Farley Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as captain.
Bob was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeye fan, having attended many games. Bob's favorite pastime was spending time on the Mississippi River near North Buena Vista. His pride and joy were his three granddaughters, Britney, Maggie and Olivia.
Surviving are his wife, Jean Ann Neyen, of Farley; three sons, Ken Neyen, Bob (Beth) Neyen Jr. and Keith (Karen) Neyen, all of Farley; two daughters, Sandy Neyen, of Farley, and Shelley Neyen, of Cedar Rapids; three granddaughters, Britney, Maggie and Olivia Neyen; a brother, Albert Neyen, of Epworth; three sisters, Shirley (Jim) Ahmann, of Farley, Duanne (Ambrose) Pins, of Bankston, and Carol Neyen, of Epworth; his father-in-law, George Simon Sr., of Farley; brothers-in-law, George (Dorann) Simon, Jr. and Roger (Darlene) Simon, both of Farley, and Marty (Judy) Simon, of Manchester; sisters-in-law, Donna A. Neyen, of Dubuque; Mary Kay (Dick) Wolfe, of Clinton, Ill., Anna Mae (Glen) Hardin, Donna (Joe) Daly, Lois (Paul) Rauen, Betty Simon and Connie Simon, all of Farley, and Sandy Simon; of Indianapolis, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William Neyen and Gary Neyen; a sister, Beverly Drees; and his mother-in-law, Mary L. Simon.
A Robert J. Neyen Memorial Fund has been established.
