Sister Helen Ann Burke, BVM, 80, of Marian Hall, 1050 Carmel Drive, died at 4:23 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Marian Hall.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mount Carmel Motherhouse Chapel, with burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Mount Carmel, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Helen was on the faculty at Clarke College. She taught English in secondary schools in Waterloo and Davenport, Iowa; Chicago; and Glendale and Santa Ana, Calif.

She was born on March 31, 1923, in Chicago, daughter of Edward Francis and Helen (Snell) Burke.

She made her first profession of religious vows on March 19, 1947, and her final profession of religious vows on Aug. 15, 1952.

Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Gabriella Burke, of Bradenton, Fla., and Sarah Burke, of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, C. Lee Harper, of Garden Grove, Calif.; nieces; and the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with whom she shared life for 58 years.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Charity BVM Retirement Fund.
