Karl M. Schmitt, 67, of 719 Berekley Place died at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Xavier Hospital.
Memorial services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at Holy Ghost church. Because of Holy Week, the funeral mass will be offered at a later date. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Behr's, where the parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.Mr. Schmitt was born near Rickardsville, Iowa, and had been employed at the Dubuque Packing Company for 34 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of United Food and Commerical Workers Local No. 150A, the Epworth American Legion Post, and was a World War II Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ellen Birch; two daughters, Mrs. Ted (Karlene) Duschen of Rockford, Ill., and Mrs. Ronald (Eileen) Switzer of Dubuque; two sons, David E. and Richard C., both of Dubuque; 10 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Lorraine Ehlers and Mrs. Carl (Mary Jane) Bellman, both of Rickardsville, Mrs. Delores Kamp of Rockdale, Iowa and Mrs. Donald (Manon) Kopp of Dubuque and two brothers, Edwin of Dubuque and Harold "Buster" of Durango.
