Death claimed Mrs. Margaret Welsh, widow of the late Patrick Welsh, on Wednesday afternoon at 4:15 o'clock at the family residence, 1836 Washington street. The death of Mrs. Welsh removes one of the old residents of the city, for Dubuque has been her home for the past sixty-four years.
She was born in County Cork, Ireland, eighty-nine years ago, and came to this country when a child. About the year 1850 she came to Dubuque and this city has continuously been her home.
Her husband preceded her in death twenty years ago and of the six children born to their union the following survive, J.D. of LaCrosse, P.F. of Montivideo, Minn., Mary and Margaret of this city. Four sisters also survive Mrs. Welsh's death, Mrs. James Lahey of Epworth, Ia., Mrs. Martin Kennedy of Bankston, Ia., Mrs. Ellen Callahan of this city, and Mrs. M.C. Gleason of Morton, Minn.
Mrs. Welsh was a life long member of the Catholic church and died fortified by the rites of the church which had been her guide and consolation through life. Her greatest influence was exerted in the home and her life was one of devotion to her family.
The funeral will take place Friday morning at 9 o'clock from the family residence to St. Patrick's church and interment will be made in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
