Vincent J. Welsh, 70, 419 Clark St., died at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday at Xavier Hospital after a short illness.
Friends may call after 67 p.m. Thursday at the Strueber Funeral Home where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday to St. Patrick's Church. The Holy Name Society will meet at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home for recitation of the Rosary. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 7, 1884 in Dubuque, the son of Richard and Catherine Callahan Welsh. He married Miss Mary (Mate) Hamilton on Jan. 7, 1915 at St. Patrick's Church, Epworth. He worked for 51 years with the Milwaukee Road and was employed in the railroad shop for three years. He was retired and a member of St. Patricks' Church, its Holy Name Society and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. John (Geraldine) LaVelle, San Francisco, Calif., Mrs. J.J. (Ann) Staub, Dubuque, and Mrs. John P. (Bette) Kelly, Chicago; one brother, Raymond J. Welsh, Atlanta, Ga., and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Mary Eileen Welsh in 1917, and one brother, Charles Welsh in 1920.
