Another of the sturdy pioneers of Dubuque county expired yesterday morning, and once more is the rapidly thinning ranks of the early settlers decreased by the death of a good citizen. Patrick Maloney died at half past 7 o'clock, at the residence, on Fifth street, between Iowa and Clay streets, of his daughter, Mrs. M.T. Desmond. He died of sheer old age, having passed the allotted time of man, being 84 years old at the time of his death.

He was a native of county Limerick, Ireland. He emigrated to Galena in 1827, and 1832 [possibly 1852] came to Dubuque county, and settled on a farm in Vernon township. Like many of the vigorous young men of his time he endured the privations of the pioneers and worked his way to a competency. In all his dealings he was square and honorable, and verily it may be said "a good man has gone."

Besides Mrs. Desmond, his children are Mrs. Joseph O'Brien, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Mrs. John O'Brien, of Denver. Mrs. Wm. Potts, lately deceased, was also a daughter.

The burial will be at the Monastery to-day. The cortege will leave the city at 8 o'clock.
