The sorrowful news was received in this city yesterday of the death of Mr. Daniel Ernst, a gentleman well known in this city. He died at Belmont, Nevada, on the 14th day of January and the news of his demise was only received yesterday owing to the severe snow blockade in the west.

Mr. Ernst was born in Meckelburg [sic]. He was an old citizen of Dubuque, having moved to this city 42 years ago, a stonemason by trade, and very honest and honorable in all his business transactions.

Seventeen years ago he went west to Cheyenne and then to Belmont, Nevada. His family followed the year after. Mrs. Ernst died ten years ago. He leaves five children, Mrs. Henry Wunderlich of this city, Mr. Geo. Ernst, John Ernst, Mrs. Joseph Williams and William Ernst, all of California.
