DEATHS - Herbert Jewell
Herbert Jewell, 71, of 2615 1-2 Washington street, died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday in a Freeport, Illinois hospital. He was stricken on a train and died shortly after reaching the hospital.

Friends may call after noon Sunday at the Haudenshield funeral home, 2170 Central avenue, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Linwood cemetery.

Jewell was born March 23, 1878 in West Virginia, and in 1902 went to Beetown, Wisc., moving later to Cassville, Wisc. He moved 30 years ago to Dubuque, where he was employed for 10 years by the Interstate Power company, and for 10 years by the Walker and Cartigny Fruit company. He retired in 1939

He was a veteran of the Spanish American war, serving for three years, and was a member of the General Fitzhugh-Lee camp of Dubuque,
He was married in March, 1903, to Mary Klarman, who died in January, 1941. A number of years later he married Mrs. Alvertta Jewell.
Surviving are the widow; one son, Harold Jewell, of Racine, Wisc.; one daughter, Mrs. Al (Myrtle) Gerhards, of Dubuque; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; one brother, Charles Jewell, of Seattle, Wash.; and two sisters, Mrs. Beulah Lewis, of Seattle, and Miss Mary Jewell, of Republic, Pa.
