SISTER DOROTHY HALSTEAD

Sister Dorothy Halstead, BVM (Joseph Michael), 75, died May 30, 2006 at Marian Hall, Dubuque, Iowa. Visitation will be June 1 from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Marion Hall Chapel with a prayer service at 7 p.m. The funeral will be held June 2 at 11 a.m. Sister Dorothy was a primary teacher at St. Charles, Chicago; St. Peter, Antioch; St. Colette, Rolling Meadows; and St. Margaret Mary Algonquin and schools in Iowa. She was born June 25, 1930 in Chicago to Russell and Helen Burke Halstead. She graduated from Immaculate High School before entering the BVM congregation on Sept. 8, 1949. She professed first vows in 1952, and final vows in 1957. Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by three sisters, Helen Giancaterino, Elk Grove Village, IL; Carole Hatke, Itasca, Il; Marilynn Martini, Buffalo Grove, IL; brothers, Russell Halstead, Toledo, Ohio; Michael Halstead, Carlisle, Penn.; and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared life for 56 years. Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Charity, BVM Retirement Fund, 1100 Carmel Dr., Dubuque, IA 52003.
