The Dubuque Daily Herald, December 20, 1877
Maurice Flynn, an old resident of Dubuque, died on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock after an illness upward of six months. Mr. Flynn was born in New Castle West, Limerick County, Ireland in 1824, making him at the time of his death 53 years of age. He came to Dubuque 25 years ago, and was soon elected to the office of constable, which position he held for many years, attending the duties of the office with great satisfaction to the lawyers, the courts and legal profession. But his career is at an end and the Judge of the Great Court has summoned to His bar, a good, honest, and upright man whose genial presence will be missed by the hosts of friends he leaves behind. Mr. Flynn was well liked and respected by all who knew him. He leaves a wife and six children, John, Michael, Maurice, James, Jerry and Johanna to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and an indulgent father. Notice of funeral hereafter.
