Richard Vyverberg, 82, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on September 23, 2018 at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 28th, 2018 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with Deacon Paul Peckosh officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post #6. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 27th, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory.
He was born in Dubuque, Iowa on August 20, 1936, the son of Milton Benjamin and Marie (Billmeyer) Vyverberg. He married Carole J. (Mann Nothaft) on May 22, 1982. He is a United States Army veteran serving for two years.
Mr. Vyverberg was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works from 1955 to 1992 where he worked as Journeyman Tool and Die Maker and later as a manufacturing Engineer.
He enjoyed Bass fishing, playing golf with his wife, woodworking, and spending time with His grandchildren.
He was a former member of Knights of Columbus Council 5513, Dubuque Coast Guard Auxiliary, Dubuque Bass Club, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, & John Deere Supervisors club.
He is survived by his wife Carole, his son Greg (Kim) Vyverberg, of Dubuque, his daughter Kim Vyverberg, of Davenport, Iowa; two step-daughters Laura (Troy) Lash and Lisa (Roger) Oberbroeckling-Higgins. Six grandchildren, Nicole (Shane) Freiburger, Jacob (Stephanie Allen) Vyverberg, Jessica and Sarah Oberbroeckling, all of Dubque, Rachel and Audrey Lash of Indianola, Iowa. Great grandchildren Cash Freiburger and Cora Allen. Two sisters, Shirley (Ben) Schroeder and Joan (Clare) Snodgrass, of Dubuque; along with his former spouse Beverly Vyverberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents Milton and Marie Vyverberg; grandparents, Ben and Elizabeth Vyverberg and Tony and Veronica Billmeyer and a grandson Mitchell Oberbroeckling who passed on August 5, 2000.
A special thank you to the 5th Floor nurses at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital for the exceptional care they gave to Richard.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. It was Richard’s wish to have these funds help a wounded veteran.
