Relatives from this place attended the funeral of Private Nicholas Arens, whose remains were shipped from France for final internment at Dyersville. The funeral was held in St. Francis Church in Dyersville Monday morning and the dead solider was buried with full military honors. Nicholas Arens was born on a farm near Dyersville August 20th, 1894 and was therefore 24 years of age at the time of his death. When war was declared he enlisted and left with a contingent from Dyersville on, July 26th for Camp Gordon, Georgia, remaining there until September when he left for France. He was placed in the replacement regiment and while in the thickest of battles made the ultimate sacrifice.
