Neal was born May 7, 1923 in Dubuque, the son of John and Anna (Hefti) McEvoy. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1941 and served in the US Navy during WW II. Neal married Dorothy E. Krayer, the love of his life, on May 27, 1944, and they had two children, a son Edward and a daughter Lee. They thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings (with many games being played), music and dancing, and travelling later on in life. When Dorothy grew ill, Neal very lovingly took care of her needs until her death on December 29, 1996.

Neal worked for 32 years as a division manager/consultant with Caradco Windows & Doors. He also worked at Jeld-Wen, Cuba City Doctors Clinic, and One Stop Tax Service. He was a long time member of Immanuel Congregational UCC and was very active in the church for 45 years; until he joined Summit Congregational UCC in 2000.

Neal was very smart and could fix or “rig-up” a repair for anything! He rebuilt a 1930 Model “A” Ford in 1940; and he designed and helped build the family home in 1958-59. Neal enjoyed many sports, but was a most avid Cubs fan! The family went to numerous Cubs games through the years—and up until the end of his life Neal always watched on TV or listened on the radio to every Cubs game being played. Another love of Neal’s was flowers and gardening. He tended to rose bushes every spring and summer, along with many other varieties both inside and outside the house. For many years now, Neal and his daughter combined their love of nature and music on weekly dates to the Sunday concerts in the arboretum—a memory that will always be cherished by his daughter.

Survivors include his children, Edward (Janet) McEvoy and Lee (Kevin Madden) McEvoy; a grandson, Kelby John McEvoy Madden; and a brother in-law, Robert (Dorothy) Krayer.

Neal was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; siblings, John (Catherine) McEvoy, Robert (Laura) McEvoy, and Katherine (James) Chubb; and a brother in-law, Donald (Shirley) Krayer.

A memorial fund has been established in Neal’s memory.

The family would like to extend a big thanks to the numerous Finley Hospital nurses/doctors who cared for Neal during the last 8 months of his life, AND a special thank you to all the nurses and staff at Luther Manor for their T.L.C. to our father!
