NEW VIENNA, Iowa - Anthony B. "Tony" Boeckenstedt, 86, of New Vienna, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at Oak Crest Manor, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, with the Rev. John O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 5 p.m.

Mr. Boeckenstedt was a truck driver for L.W. Westhoff, he owned and operated Boeckenstedt Plumbing & Heating for about 20 years and then worked for the Western Dubuque School District for 20 years,
retiring in 1986.

He was born on May 16, 1921, in New Vienna, son of Anton and Agnes (Beckman) Boeckenstedt.

He married Julianna M. Freking on May 27, 1946; she preceded him in death on June 4, 1965. He later married Winnifred "Winnie" Slagle on June 11, 1966, at St. Boniface Church, New Vienna; she preceded him in death in 2005.

He was a member of the Eagles Aerie 4114 and a volunteer fireman for the New Vienna area.

Surviving are three daughters, Dianne Hermsen, of New Vienna, Donna Herbrandson, of Waterloo, and Lisa (Tom) Manson, of Guttenberg; seven grandchildren, Jim (Meghan) Hermsen, Kathy (Scott) Henry, Jill (Dan) Doyle, Mickey (Heather) Hermsen, Tracy Hermsen, Kristy Herbrandson and Michael Herbrandson; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dolores Boeckenstedt, of Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville, and Rose Agnes Boeckenstedt, of New Vienna; a brother, David Boeckenstedt, of New Vienna; seven sisters and brothers-in-law, Kay (Louis) Wessels, of New Vienna, Janaan (Len) Wiest, of Littleton, Colo., Marcella Boeckenstedt, of Dyersville, Alice Boeckenstedt, of Dubuque, and Jim Freking, of New Vienna.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Charles, James, Arthur, Mark, Albert and Robert Boeckenstedt; and a son-in-law, Harold "Hap" Hermsen.
