DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Dorothy H. Kluesner Lucas, 82, of Dyersville, formerly of Holy Cross, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at her home after a brief illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Holy Cross, with the Rev. Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 2:30 p.m.

She was born on Sept. 6, 1925, in North Buena Vista, daughter of Michael and Veronica (Brimeyer) Engling.

She married Bernard F. Kluesner on Aug. 26, 1946, in North Buena Vista, and together they farmed near Holy Cross until he preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 1973. Dorothy then moved to Dubuque, where she became the switchboard operator at Mercy Health Center. She later married Lawrence P. Lucas on May 4, 1984, in Dubuque, when they moved back to the Holy Cross area until retirement. Dorothy and Larry moved to Dyersville in 2003.

Surviving are her husband, Lawrence; her six children, Al (Jeanne) Kluesner, of Dubuque, Peter (Karen) Kluesner, of New Vienna, Jean Kluesner, of Brooklyn, Wis., Duane (Mae) Kluesner, of Holy Cross, Chuck (Donna) Kluesner, of Peosta, and Sherrie (Ron) Hogan, of Dyersville; eight stepchildren, Judy (John) Vonderhaar, of New Vienna, Tom (Ruth) Lucas, of Dyersville, Connie (Leon) Jaeger, of Balltown, Mark Lucas, of Iowa City, John (Bev) Lucas, of Sherrill, Carrie (Mike) Schmitt, of Rickardsville, Joe (Michele) Lucas, of Lake St. Louis, Mo., and Dan Lucas, of Minneapolis; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild; 24 stepgrandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Agnes Steines, of Dubuque; a brother, Elmer (Marilyn) Engling, of Dubuque; brothers-in-law, Russ Gantenbein, of Dubuque, Lee Lucas, of Minneapolis, Ray (Vern) Lucas, of Cedar Rapids, Merlyn (Phyllis) Lucas, of Madison, Wis., and Tom Manternach, of Dubuque; and sisters-in-law, Florabelle "Babe" Kluesner, of Farley, Rita Schaul, of Dyersville, Joann (Norman) Link, of Dubuque, and Shirley McCloy, of Delmar.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Kluesner; three sisters, Viola (John W.) Kaufman, Cecelia Gantenbein and Marie (Sylvester) Kluesner; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence (Donna) Kluesner, Merlin and Mary Catherine Kluesner, Herman Steines, Mercedes (Fred) Kluesner, Joe Schaul, Milton Lucas and Cecelia Manternach.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of gifts and floral tributes.
